Sponsored by TORELLI
Pennine Challenge is a challenging hilly sportive. Starting at the Radclyffe Athletics Stadium in Chadderton it takes a challenging hilly circuit over the Pennine hills around Saddleworth.
Two distances 100km and 60 km. This is a tough test lots of climbing starting with the climb up Bustones Road to Grains Bar before a steep descent in the village of Delph then a long draggy climb that gets steeper near the top upto the Old original pub. Then a chance to get your breath back along platting lane towards Lydgate before a descent in to Grasscroft. The route then turns towards Stalybridge. As you come into Stalybridge the route takes the old Mottram Road up to Mottram Cutting a short steep climb, then the descent to Hollingworth. Right at the traffic lights at the bottom then left onto Woolly Road and a long draggy climb up through Padfield then onto Devils Elbow. Between the two reservoirs then onto the toughest clim of the day Holmes Moss. Favourites with the Tour of Britain, Leeds Classic and Milk Race organisers. Over the top of Holmes Moss towards the village of Holmebridge. Then a fast decent into Meltham before the tough climb of Wessenden Head. Over the Saddleworth Moors a then a long fast descent into the village of Greenfield. Right along Chew Valley Road through Uppermill before a 2 mile stedy climb up to the Horse and Jockey pub. A sharp left turn down to Delph and then through the valley to Denshaw to tackle the last climb of the day the Moorcock. Once over the Moorcock theres another fast descent into Newhey then along the flat through Shaw and Royton back to the Radclyfe Athletics Centre. A tough day in the saddle. You have ben warned.
The 60km riders double back at Stalybridge and rejoin the 100km route in Greenfield.
